A few days ago my son, reluctantly, went with some friends to our local zoo. I told him he had to take photos. He more reluctantly agreed to do this as, for him, it’s regarded as a chore. Throughout his time there, he kept calling home giving his Dad and me updates on things he was seeing. I reminded him to take a few photos and, to my delight, when he came home he told me that he had.
I looked at his photos and was amazed at the photos he took. A number are out of focus or in extremely low light - but it gives me a glimpse of not only what he saw - but what he thought was worth taking a photograph of.
In one case, he he’d mentioned on the phone, “Mom, I’m gonna hang up the phone and take a picture of a swan.” In looking at the photos, there aren’t any swans - but there are some beautiful white pelicans. In another case, he told me he was standing on line to see Spiderman. And there’s a great photo of him with Spiderman.
Sometimes it’s great to let someone else take over the camera for a while … and this was a reminder, to me, to do just that.
