Rules I plan on breaking in 2009 - related to scrapbooking:
1) I will use old papers and kits - Now, I don’t mean papers that are aged, I mean papers that are from 2007 or even earlier. Why? Because they’re on my hard drive after three years of me cleaning stuff I don’t use off and I still like them. If it was designed in 2005 or 2009, as long as I like it, I’ll use it.
2) I will scrap out of date order - I used to be one of those “scrap chronologically” people. I’m not sure why I got into that mode, but it seemed to make the most sense. But now I’m finding that I’m scrapping a lot of earlier photos - either of my son as an infant, trips before I had a child, or even photos before I was thought of. If I wait ’til I’m caught up, I know I will have gotten things about those photos - including possibly why I wanted to scrap them in the first place!
3) I will use imperfect photos - Sometimes you can only sharpen things so much before you realize, there’s no hope for it. So, my new plan - reduce the size if that’s a way to “save” the photo and sharpen a little. If it’s a great photo, but a tad blurred, well, if it’s the only shot I have of my son with Lou Seal, the SF Giants mascot, he’s gonna want that scrapped!
4) I will mix up my fonts - I’m really a font purist at heart [or maybe a wanna-be-font purist at heart]. Mixing up font families has been a bit “no” in my book. However, having a funky font as a title, and a more readable font for the text makes a lot of sense. If one is serif and the other script, but they work together well, I’m gonna go for it and be daring. Maybe I’ll even get a little crazy and mix capitals and lower case in a title … have to ponder that one a bit.
5) I will scrap at least one page about me this year - I know many people who wouldn’t regard this as “breaking a rule,” but for me, scrapping about my son for his great-grandmum’s was how this all began. So, scrapping about myself is breaking a rule. Now, I don’t like scrapping myself [it always feels like doing a marketing piece], but I realized that if I don’t scrap photos of me, who’s gonna tell my story? So I’d better get to work on this one.
So, what scrapping rules are you going to break in 2009?

I found the article by Dara Golden so interesting about breaking the rules. I wouldn’t break any of the house rules on purpose, but as far as rules for scrapbooking and using old against the new, I think I have been doing that a lot as it is. I will not put pictures of my family on line, whether here or “there”, as I find out through my surfing that so much is found and pictures of my family and grandchildren I don’t want out there. So, I just go on doing generic posts and what “I” think may be of interest even though others may not think so.
Now, this is just Bernie who decided a long time ago that when I join or do something, I am going to have fun and that is the object of the game. RAKScraps has been so good and I appreciate all the friendliness and happiness that exudes from being here, and also enjoy the little bit of writing when the time presents itself. So, here I am, just putting in my 2 cents worth.
Happy day to all,
Bernie
