How many of you have seemingly endless photos of the “same” event? You know, the kids doing yet another football/soccer game - where it’s just another game of running up and down the field. Nothing too exciting, just another “game day”? Or it’s another class in the long session of swimming lessons? Or it’s another day at the park where not much happened except you got a few moments to relax and the kids burned off some energy?
You want to do *something* with the photos besides have them take up space on your hard drive - but what? They seem too dull to do anything with and they’re the Xth in a very long series. So, what to do?
I don’t have an answer [as I’m facing another season of both my son’s baseball and professional baseball], but I do have a few suggestions from things I’ve read:
- pick one photo to represent the day and scrap that photo
- pick one photo to represent the day and combine it with other single photos representing the event over time
- print the photos from the day and put them into photo albums [that’s right, don’t scrap them, just place them in an album]
- pick a photo or two from the day and journal about your child - not the event
- pick a photo and create a list, such as “I see” or “Today” and finish the sentence
- have someone else look over the photos and see if any one photo “speaks” to them [note: I did this with my son once and learned a LOT about what was going on in his mind and used his quotes for a page]
- leave the photos on your hard drive for a while and ignore the photos. Time may shed some light on what to do with them.
- look over the photos and ask if there’s “something else” you see - such as listening, focus, concentration, new skill development, friendship, sharing - and journal about that
If you’ve any additional suggestions, leave a comment. I’m always looking for new ideas on this topic.

how about a 2 pager scrapping a set of similar photos over a time frame. Eg one year of park going, one season of baseball games.
